I’m a writer, editor, traveler, and parent. My novel CURRENCY came out from Other Voices Books in 2010. It won a Nobbie Award and was selected as an honorable mention by Friends of American Writers. Set in Thailand, CURRENCY is about a Thai man and an American woman who together become embroiled in dangerous schemes.
Lately, I’ve been working on a long nonfiction project. I’m practicing what to say about it: It’s a memoir exploring the lens through which I’ve viewed my childhood sexual assault. I post at The Nervous Breakdown on topics often relating to sexuality, parenting, and gender.
Back in the day, I published a zine called Maxine with Martha Bayne and Anne Bruns. There are a few piece from it up here.
On Twitter, I’m @zoezolbrod.
And on Facebook, CURRENCY has a fan page.
I’m honored to be the inspiration for a post on what looks to be a thoughtful, new blog…also am v. excited to read CURRENCY in its final form, as I much recall its inception…much here to anticipate and reflect on. Look forward to more wisdom culled from the wilds of travel and parenting (no need to convince me of the relationship) anymore …
Hello from France, I’m having a wonderful time discovering so many interesting things. Dreams of elsewhere yes I can be part of that dream too, I travelling most of the time alone. Thanks ,, merçi for sharing your thoughts c’est tres passionnant.
Hello! I found your name in a Ms. magazine article by Pagan Kennedy. Now, the article itself is a few years old, but it’s brand-new to me, and she mentions an article you wrote for your ‘zine Maxine. It sounds like a wonderful article, and while she includes a coupla quotes from it I would love to be able to read the whole thing. Do you have any old copies of Maxine lying around with that article in it, or would you possibly be able to email it to me? I don’t have any incredibly pressing reason, just that I loved the Kennedy article (called “So…Are You Two Together?”) and I’m craving more intelligent writing on hetero girl-love. If you would be willing to email the article, you can get in touch with me at charlottebug@gmail.com. I hope to hear from you!
Thank you for contacting me. It makes me happy that someone is interested in reading the article I wrote so long ago, but that I still have a soft spot for. Oddly enough, you’re the third person this year to have read Pagan’s article and then tracked me down. I don’t have many copies left of the first issue of Maxine, so instead of sending you one, I’m going to post the text here. Hopefully I’ll remember to tell you when it’s up, but in case I forget, please check back in a week or so. Thanks again!
Glad you stopped by my blog because it led me to yours! Gonna add you to my RSS feed. Let me know when the book comes out… Perhaps you can do a guest post on my blog or something of the sort. Looks fascinating!
Thank for taking a look, Alexis. I would love to do a guest post or something. Your blog is impressive.
Hi Zoe,
Would you like to explore the possibility of turning your book into a Spanish audiobook.
Check our websites so you get an idea of what we are doing and if you are interested let’s talk and will offer you options to make it happen. This is the type of book that would translate great for youngsters on the road throughout the world. In fact, IF you have the audiobook version in English, I would gladly offer it in both languages.
Regards,
Maria Siccardi
Hi Zoe,
Just noticed that you’ve decided to follow me on Twitter. Wonderful! And thank you. If you have time in the near future, I’d love to do an interview with you on my site, via Skype or written word. I use to produce and host a community radio show specifically for female artists (writers, musicians, poets).
Look forward to hearing from you.
Fabulous! Your novel looks like a read that is right up my alley. Foreign travel, love and intrigue – can’t wait to get my hands on a copy . . . looks like you’re doing well and looking good as always, cheers!
Thank you, Erika! A globe-trotting woman like you is my perfect audience.
Hello, Zoe! Your blog is a wonderful endeavor, and I commend you for the insightful articles. Keep up the great work!
Thank you. I take it as quite a compliment coming from a globbler!

Hi Zoe –
wanted to say thanks for the Four Over Forty panel at AWP. I SO needed that! I really appreciated hearing your story. I’m one of those people who was going to avoid the panel and groaned when I read the title. I went in support of Dan Libman, and I’m so glad I did. I’m new to your blog and will check out more of your work.
Thanks again!
Christine Simokaitis
I just wanted to let you all know how much I enjoyed your “loser Beach” panel at AWP– probably my favorite AWP panel ever. You all put your finger right on the anxieties and tribulations of the great unbooked, particularly those of us in academia. A pleasure to hear such honesty, and humor too. My own wrestling with these demons resulted in a novel about a just-turned-40 teacher so desperate for a book he steals from a dead student (madcap mayhem ensues). It is, of course, unpublished.
Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me that. I really appreciate it.
So here is another message from the future. A friend directed me to an interesting essay about why it’s usually white males who go on these shooting sprees in public places (ie: Batman movie, Columbine, etc.) on a website http://www.rolereboot.org. Which had a number of other interesting entries/stories/writings (what does one call these electronic offerings?) which lead me to a piece asking if having a roommate makes you immature, by Chanel Dubovsky. Which mentioned both a current feature in the NY Times and the 2001 piece by Pagan Kennedy. Which then lead me to you. (And that is why I am a passionate fan of my Kindle…shameless plug…and its ability to let me explore any idea down whichever ideological path I choose to explore.) I almost never post comments on anything but thought you might appreciate the twists and turns which lead me to you.
Hi Nicole–
I have forwarded your request to my publisher, who handles review copies. It wasn’t clear to me from the blog for which publications Alle reviews. Do you know?
Best,
